On 17 October, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Harman, announced the largest ever mass-redundancy in Australian university history. Over 250 staff at Victoria University will be given forced redundancies, a cut of up to 26 per cent of academic staff. The University’s financial crisis has been manufactured to cut staff at the expense of constructing more buildings. Let the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor know that you support the staff and students at Victoria University.

PHANTOM PLACES REVEALED IN SKILLS REFORM

The NTEU today slammed the Victorian Government over its claims that 172,000 new places will be created by the controversial skills reforms. “It is students that will suffer from the government’s smoke and mirrors claims, with costs for diploma level courses to increase by over 200 per cent,” said Mr McGowan.Read more here.
