I am writing to you because I am concerned that your new TAFE funding reforms will undermine our public TAFE system. Your new TAFE changes have massively increased student fees. I am also unhappy that your “training guarantee” is nothing more than a voucher system that shifts the cost of funding TAFE from the government to the student. I am also unhappy that this new voucher system will divert public funds to private operators, allowing private companies to cherry pick profitable courses. This does nothing to address the skills crisis, and simply enriches for-profit companies. I am seeking a guarantee from you that no public TAFE will lose funding as a result of your changes. I also seek your guarantee that public TAFEs will not be able to use your funding changes to refuse to collectively bargain with staff unions. Yours truly,
