Dear Chancellor Vincent and Vice Chancellor Harman,

I am writing because I support the staff and students at Victoria University. I oppose the unnecessary redundancies that were announced by Prof. Harman on 17 October, and the decision of the University Council to back the Vice Chancellor. I am concerned that these redundancies will have a serious and negative impact on staff and students at Victoria University, and I am concerned that further education opportunities for future students in the Western Suburbs could be damaged as a result. The reasons given for the redundancies are plainly concocted to undertake a capital works program at the expense of loyal staff and students. I support the campaign being run by the staff and students of Victoria University, and I support the demands made by the staff union, the National Tertiary Education Union. I call on you to abandon the redundancies and to return to the negotiating table with the NTEU.
